One-Visit Crowns with CEREC
CEREC (CEramic REConstruction) is a breakthrough 3-D imaging and milling system that allows Dr. Camacho to create perfectly fitting and color-matched restorations (crowns, onlays or inlays) out of high-grade porcelain during a single dental visit.
Dr. Camacho uses the CEREC system primarily for the back teeth. For the front teeth he uses a top-quality lab that he has worked with for years.
Digital impressions with the Omnicam®
Dr. Camacho uses the high-tech Omnicam digital scanner to create precise impressions from which to fabricate your crown. The Omnicam is part of the CEREC system and is used to take digital impressions of your teeth. These high-tech impressions are faster, more comfortable and more accurate than ordinary dental models made with messy putty.
Designing your new Crown
The 3D impressions from the Omnicam are fed into the CEREC design station. Dr. Camacho will design your new crown to make sure it looks totally natural and fits just right.
Milling the Crown
Using a single solid block of material that is color-matched to your natural teeth, your crown will be custom-milled according to the computerized design. The new crown will be made from high-grade porcelain or zirconia-reinforced porcelain. Using a solid block makes the crown very durable and resistant to fissures and cracks.
Adjusting the Crown for a perfect match
Dr. Camacho will make any necessary adjustments to the surfaces of the crown for perfect fit and function. He will then adjust the shade and color in our porcelain oven as needed for a perfectly natural look that completely blends in with your regular teeth.
Why a dental Crown?
For some people, crowns can be an excellent alternative to veneers for creating a new smile. Usually Dr. Camacho will recommend crowns over veneers when the teeth have a lot of decay or when crowns are needed to adjust the bite.
Dr. Camacho may recommend a crown for a variety of reasons:
- Smile makeovers
- To improve your bite
- Hold a dental bridge in place
- Hold together a cracked tooth
- Protect a weak tooth from breaking
- To lengthen teeth that are too short
- Cover severely discolored or misshapen teeth
- Restore a broken tooth or a tooth that’s been severely worn down
- Repair a tooth after a root canal treatment
- Cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn’t much tooth left
Durable, precision-fit Onlays & Inlays in one visit
Onlays and Inlays are restorations that are bonded to the teeth to repair large cavities or to repair damaged teeth. An inlay fits within the grooves between the cusps of your teeth. An onlay is used when the damage is more extensive and fits within the grooves but wraps up and over the cusps covering more of the tooth’s surface.
The CEREC system allows Dr. Camacho to create beautiful tooth-colored restorations that match the color and appearance of the rest of your teeth. The onlays or inlays will have the same translucence, color and brilliance as that of your natural healthy teeth.
Unlike traditional onlays and inlays, which can sometimes take several visits and require temporaries; using the CEREC system we can apply these in one visit.
