Dentistry From The Heart 2016

On Saturday June 4, 2016 Dr. Camacho, his wife and several staff members volunteered for the 7th annual Dentistry From the Heart held at Advanced Smile Care. Over 150 patients were seen! Free fillings, extractions and cleanings were provided. The event started at 7:00 am and lasted until 5:00 pm. Cosmetic Dentistry of San Antonio was proud to attend for the second year in a row. We would also like to thank Dr. Crouch and Advanced Smile Care for holding this event that helped many patients get needed treatment that day.

Giving back to their community is very much on the minds of Dr. Edward Camacho and his wife June. They are active participants in the San Antonio community and feel fortunate to be able to help in various ways. They are involved in many programs to help people get the dental care they need and are contributors to numerous organizations that support human rights, literacy programs and anti-drug education.

Heaven For Hope

Scores of indigent and homeless San Antonians got critical dental care recently, as veteran San Antonio cosmetic dentist Eddie Camacho and a team of staffers joined dozens of other dentists, dental assistants, hygienists and other volunteers at the Smiles of Hope Clinic on the campus of Haven for Hope on the city’s near West Side.

The Oct. 12, 2015 event – which targets indigent and low-income patients and residents of the Haven for Hope – was a daylong clinic to provide a range of services, from fillings to extractions to oral surgery, sponsored by the San Antonio District Dental Society. This was the second year for the Smiles of Hope Clinic.

SACDC is the only public dental clinic for adults in San Antonio. While public aid programs provide dental care for children, adults generally aren’t eligible. The clinic is operated year-round by a roster of 70 volunteer dentists, half of whom donate services at least monthly. A small admin staff, supplies and utilities are provided through donations to the ministry.

Proper dental care is a critical part of services to the indigent and homeless, because dental problems can cause overall health problems. And for those seeking jobs, organizers said, a smile with broken or diseased teeth may prevent them from getting employment.

On Saturday, Dr. Camacho and his wife, fellow dentist and practice manager June, were joined by staff volunteers. All are from Dr. Camacho’s Cosmetic Dentistry of San Antonio, located at Bitters and Huebner in north central San Antonio.

“It was so great to see all the turnout of my colleagues and their staff”, Dr. Camacho said, “We have a great group of dentists in San Antonio and I want to acknowledge those who helped with the event.”

Smiles On Wheels

Dr. Camacho and June help provide access to dental hygiene and treatment for adults and children who don’t have a regular dental office. Smiles on Wheels gives them full dental services at no cost in places where quality dental care isn’t readily available. These services include: Dental cleanings, X-Rays, sealants, oral cancer screenings and fluoride treatments, plus instructions on how to maintain proper oral hygiene.

Smile Train

Millions of children are suffering from disfiguring cleft lips in many developing countries. This makes it difficult for them to eat and speak, attend school, or even to eventually hold a job. They face very difficult lives filled with a future of shame and isolation. To help provide these children with surgery to repair their cleft lip, the Camachos support Smile Train, the world’s leading cleft charity.

Smiles Of Hope – San Antonio

Dr. Edward Camacho, his wife and fellow dentist June, and the staff at Cosmetic Dentistry of San Antonio participated in the Smiles of Hope clinic on the campus of Haven for Hope on the West Side of San Antonio to help scores of indigent and homeless San Antonians get critical dental care. Proper dental care is vital to helping the indigent and homeless since dental problems can cause overall health problems.

Fistula Foundation

As supporters of the Fistula Foundation the Camachos are dedicated to raising awareness of and funding for fistula repair, prevention and educational programs worldwide to help eradicate fistula. Fistulas are common in third world countries where young girls are forced to marry and become pregnant. Prolonged labor in bodies that are not yet developed can cause a fistula or hole to develop. These young girls are ostracized from their families and communities due to being labeled “unclean.” The Fistula Foundation sets up hospitals and repairs these fistulas.
