Health & Beauty Tip – Week of April 25th

Beauty Tip- Microneedling For More Beautiful Skin

This is a little roller with a handle that has micro-needles sticking out all over. You roll it across your face and it punctures the skin on a microscopic level. Why in the world would you want to do that?! Actually, this is a skin rejuvenating treatment that is FDA approved because it actually works to stimulate collagen (collagen is abundant in younger skin).

In essence, by puncturing the skin this sets up a healing process whereby new skin cells grow which results in the formation of collagen fibers and improved blood supply. This improves the thickness of the skin which in turn improves the skin texture and reduces wrinkles. It also helps with hyperpigmentation and depending on the size of the needles (they come in different sizes) it can be used to treat stretch marks, acne scars, cellulite and scars on any part of the body. These little punctures also create portals for your skin care products to enter and work better.

As far as the ouch factor, well it is a little ouch but not that bad. You are doing it very lightly (not enough to draw blood) and you will look a little pink when you are done. The size that is recommended for the face is 0.5 mm for anti-aging and light acne scarring. 1.0mm for light stretch marks and 1.5mm for deep stretch marks and very deep scarring.

I use mine about 5 times a week. You need to replace it about every 6 weeks or so depending on how many times a week you use it. You just pour some alcohol on it after each use so it is easy to care for. You can purchase them at Amazon.com. Just type in Derma-rollers in the search bar and there are many to choose from. I have used several brands. Make sure you pick the correct size of needles.

Health Tip- L-Theanine For Relaxation

L-Theanine is an amino acid that is found in green tea. It helps to promote a mild restful state without making you drowsy. Ironically, it also helps your ability to focus and can improve memory.

L-theanine is extremely safe with no known side-effects. It can also help reduce the effects of caffeine and help relieve symptoms of PMS.

I use Suntheanine and it can be ordered from www.biosynergy.com/theanine.htm This is a patented pharmaceutical grade L-theanine. I take 200mg in the morning and 200 mg at night.

Green Tip- Stop Receiving Junk Mail

The average American household receives an estimated 850 pieces of junk mail every year — enough, as we all know, to cover our kitchen tables several times over. It's no coincidence that paper makes up one-quarter of all landfill waste, or that the junk mail industry's environmental footprint is large, equivalent to the tailpipe pollution from 9 million cars.

You can reclaim the calm of an uncluttered tabletop with a few keystrokes. Just register for the Mail Preference Service on the Direct Marketing Association Website. For $1, your name and address will be removed from prospective mailing lists, ending 75% of junk mail within about 90 days. This tip comes from the The Daily Green.

Dental Tip-Diet Soda just as bad for your teeth

Diet soda may not have sugar but it does have acid, which can destroy your smile by softening hard tooth enamel. In fact, a 2007 study published in General Dentistry concluded that diet sodas dissolve enamel like their traditional counterparts, weakening healthy tooth structure.
