Beauty Tip- Fuller Eyebrows are More Youthful

One of the biggest beauty mistakes I see is over-plucked eyebrows, well besides the Uncle Leo painted on ones. Over-plucked eyebrows look harsh and can age you significantly. Find yourself a good brow person and leave the plucking and shaping to a professional, trust me this is one service you need to invest in. They can also help you get back to a more natural looking brow and show you how and where to fill in until your own brows grow out but you will have to break your tweezing habit and just like growing out a bad haircut, it will take some time.

Health Tip- Laugh for Better Health

According to a study at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, laughter is linked to the healthy function of blood vessels. Laughter causes the tissue that lines our blood vessels to dilate or expand in order to increase blood flow.

“The endothelium is the first line in the development of atherosclerosis or hardening of the arteries, so, given the results of our study, it is conceivable that laughing may be important to maintain a healthy endothelium, and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease,” says principal investigator Michael Miller, M.D., director of preventive cardiology at the University of Maryland Medical Center and associate professor of medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. “At the very least, laughter offsets the impact of mental stress, which is harmful to the endothelium.”*

Green Tip- Your Car and Your Carbon Footprint

If you drive a SUV/4 wheel drive and average about 1000 miles a month, your carbon footprint (the amount of CO2 generated) is about 9.42 tons a year. To offset this, about 47.1 trees would need to be planted. Most of us are not willing to give up driving a car so think about maybe planting trees to help reduce your carbon footprint. I don’t mean getting a shovel and doing it yourself but there is an organization that does. Go to plant-trees.org and make a donation. Ten cents pants a tree, $25 will plant 250 trees, $100 will plant a 1000 trees and it is a tax write off.

Dental Tip- What Causes Teeth to Become Stained and Discolored?

Certain foods and beverages like coffee, tea, sodas, red wine and blueberries can stain teeth. Smoking or chewing tobacco also stains the teeth. Even some ingredients (like dyes) in mouthwashes and toothpaste can also stain teeth and turn tooth-colored fillings an off color. Genetics also plays role. Some people’s teeth are just whiter than others. Also as you age, the outer layer of enamel on your teeth gets worn away revealing the natural yellow color of the underlying layer called dentin. We have several different options for whitening your teeth. Call today and we will mail you a free informational brochure that explains the different teeth whitening procedures and the pros and cons of each.
