Health Tip-Create a Bedtime Ritual
In the age of electronics it is hard to put down our phones and other devices yet they can interfere with sleep. More and more research suggests that we are a sleep deprived nation and it is taking a toll on our health. Lack of regular quality sleep can lead to obesity and other health problems. Here is one tip from the Mayo clinic that can help you sleep better:
Do the same things each night to tell your body it’s time to wind down. This might include taking a warm bath or shower, reading a book, or listening to soothing music — preferably with the lights dimmed. Relaxing activities can promote better sleep by easing the transition between wakefulness and drowsiness.
Be wary of using the TV or other electronic devices as part of your bedtime ritual. Some research suggests that screen time or other media use before bedtime interferes with sleep.
A word of caution if you read at night, do not use an electronic device since they emit light just like phones and tablets that can interfere with sleep. Get yourself a good old-fashioned book or if you have an older Kindle (Paperwhite) that is not backlit this is okay. Unfortunately, they do not make them anymore. I got a used one on Amazon.
